Stop by UT for an Evening of One Act Plays Dec. 11–12

From realistic humor to wild farce, on Friday, Dec. 11, and Saturday, Dec. 12, eight University of Tampa students will perform four short comic plays in 4x8: An Evening of One Act Plays. Both performances begin at 8 p.m. in the Reeves Theater on the second floor of the Vaughn Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Directed by Robert Gonzalez, associate professor of speech and theatre, the four plays to be performed are:

  • The Tarantino Variation by Seth Kramer: Three gangsters point guns at each other and argue a lot. A Quentin Tarantino movie spoof.
  • Surprise by Mark Harvey Levine: A girl struggles to break up with her mildly psychic boyfriend in a cheap diner.
  • Please Have a Seat and Someone Will Be with You Shortly by Garth Wingfield: Two patients awaiting therapist appointments get to know one another despite their “issues.”
  • Check, Please by Jonathan Rand: A woman and a man endure six blind dates each before having enough.

The production is the main focus of UT’s Studio Theater Participation course (THR 243). Students audition for the production, and those who are cast in the show are enrolled in the course for up to one credit. Each of the eight actors chosen for this production will play at least two parts, either two lead roles or one lead role and two smaller roles.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the show will run approximately 70 minutes. For more information, contact Gonzalez at (813) 257-3854 or rmgonzalez@ut.edu.
