The University of Tampa grants credit to students who complete CAPE Unit I (1)or Unit II (2)exams with a grade of I (1)to III (3). A maximum of 30 credits can be granted. Credit is granted as specific subject credit, elective credit or credit towards Spartan Studies general education requirements.

The University of Tampa will only award credit once the official CAPE Unit I (1)or Unit II (2)certificate has been issued. Preliminary results, statement of results and unofficial photocopies cannot be used to grant credit. Once you have received your official CAPE exam certificate, either have your school make an official photocopy of the original by stamping the copy as official or submit the original exam certificate to the Office of Admissions. A certified photocopy will be made, and the original certificate(s) will be returned to you.

This evaluation of the credits awarded for CAPE examinations is subject to change and may be reviewed and revised periodically by The University of Tampa. Subjects not currently listed will be reviewed individually.

Spartan Studies is The University of Tampa’s general education program. The following abbreviations indicate which Spartan Studies requirement would be fulfilled. If nothing is listed in the Spartan Studies column, then the course does not meet general education requirements but may meet major requirements or count as general elective credit.

  • NSD – Natural Science Distribution
  • TBH – Text-Based Humanities Distribution
  • VPA – Visual and Performing Arts Distribution
  • SSD – Social Science Distribution
  • UTMAT – Math requirement
