Types of Summer, Winter, and May Courses
Plan to take your University of Tampa summer courses in one of four ways: in-person, online, hybrid and Zoom.
In-person courses meet face-to-face on campus at times and places designated in the summer schedule.
Online (asynchronous) UTampa offers online courses that students can access anytime, anyplace. Students will have access to lectures, meet weekly deadlines for projects and exams, and professors will remain available throughout the course all while enjoying the flexibility of online learning. Students can search for and enroll in online courses through Workday, filtering by "delivery mode." Students should also read the Workday public notes available for the course.
Hybrid is a mixture of face-to-face and online course meetings. Students can search for and enroll in hybrid courses through Workday, filtering by "delivery mode." Students should also read the Workday public notes available for the course.
Other Distance Learning (synchronous/ Zoom) courses are also accessed online and have a particular “same time, same place” meeting pattern. Students and their instructors log on via Zoom at a specific day and time. Students can search for and enroll in Zoom courses through Workday, filtering by "location." Students should also read the Workday public notes available for the course.

Students are encouraged to go on the wait list in those instances when a desired course is full. Wait lists are monitored daily, and students who meet all course requirements are automatically registered in the course if a seat opens up. Students on the wait list are placed in the course on a first-in first-out basis. Wait lists remain active until the start of classes in each respective summer term. Only department chairs may over-ride the wait list to add students to a closed class.
For online and remotely taught classes, the time blocks are reserved for class meetups. Though you may not be meeting all together throughout the entire time block, we want those times available for your instructors to schedule them. Therefore, you cannot register for classes that overlap the time blocks without special permission. Many online and remotely taught classes are not entirely asynchronous; that is, without common meet up times. Furthermore, the classes require the usual amount of work, so students are not encouraged to take more hours than can be handled for success in the class.
To receive a registration override, you must obtain approval from both instructors (email approval is fine) stating there will be no time conflict or the instructor will make other arrangements with the student. Then, send these approvals to registrar@ut.edu with very clear instructions as to the two classes you want placed on your schedule, be sure to include the course ID and section number for both, the term, your student ID and each instructor’s approval email message. You may want to request a confirmation from the Registrar’s Office.

Financial aid is very limited during the summer. Students who wish to apply and qualify for summer financial aid should talk with a financial aid counselor as early as possible. Contact the Financial Aid Office at (813) 253-6219 or finaid@ut.edu to explore your options. New students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
