UT Orchestra to Give Spring Concert April 30

The University of Tampa Orchestra will wrap up its inaugural year with a concert on Tuesday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Falk Theatre. The evening will begin with a “behind the music” pre-concert discussion at 6:45 p.m. at Oxford Exchange, led by Kira Omelchenko, assistant professor of music and director of orchestral and string studies. Joining her in the discussion will be music faculty soloists from the evening’s concert.

The orchestra will perform works by Bach, Offenbach, Handel and Mendelssohn. Pianist Grigorios Zamparas and trumpeter Aric Brian, both on UT’s music faculty, will join the orchestra in performing Shostakovich’s Concerto No. 1 for piano, trumpet and string orchestra.

The orchestra is comprised of UT students as well as musicians from the University and Tampa Bay community. There are currently 65 members, including 25 UT students from various majors including music, nursing, psychology, English, writing and business. The orchestra is conducted by Omelchenko.

The concert is free and open to the public. Seating for the pre-concert discussion is limited. To reserve your place contact Omelchenko directly at komelchenko@ut.edu or
