UT Presents Three Friday at Noon Organ Concerts This Fall

The PNC Bank Concert Artist Series at the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values has become one of UT’s most anticipated and well-attended events on campus. As a special bonus to the series this year, organist Haig Mardirosian will play a series of three short (30 minute) recitals at noon on three consecutive Fridays this fall.

The first Friday at Noon concert, set for Friday, Oct. 23, will feature Concerto in C by Franz Josef Haydn, and Sonata in F minor by Felix Mendelssohn.

The other two concerts are:

  • Friday, Oct. 30: Marie Bernadette Dufourcet, Images, and Robert Elmore, Suite on Nursery Tunes.
  • Friday, Nov. 6: Joseph Jongen, Sonata Eroica and Minuet Schero.

Mardirosian is a concert organist with more than 700 solo recitals and 20 commercially-released recordings to his credit over his 49-year career. He has been called upon to perform in international festivals in Europe and as a dedicatory recitalist for new instruments.

Critical acclaim of his performances has come from all quarters. The Rochester (NY) Democrat and Chronicle said Mardirosian has “outstanding musicianship and virtuosity ... He admirably expressed color, motion and human perspective in musical terms” and the American Record Guide said of his recorded work, “In our present day and age, much more such splendid organ playing is needed!”

The concerts are free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Doors open 30 minutes before each performance. Parking is available in the Thomas Parking Garage on campus, 401 W. Kennedy Blvd.

The 2015-2016 PNC Concert Artist Series is underwritten by PNC Bank and the UT College of Arts and Letters. For more information, contact caldean@ut.edu or go to www.ut.edu/sykeschapel.
