UT Theatre Department to Perform Yerma March 28-31

Yerma, a classical play written by Spanish dramatist Federico Garcia Lorca, will be presented by The University of Tampa’s Department of Speech, Theatre and Dance on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, March 28-30, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 31, at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in UT’s Falk Theatre, 428 W. Kennedy Blvd.

Gary Luter, professor of speech, theatre and dance, will direct the play.

Yerma tells a story of a young woman living in rural Spain, who is obsessed by the desire to have a child. Because of the society, time and place in which she lives, the expectation is that she will have children. Such expectations become overwhelming and unbearable for her, and she is forced to take measures that those around her view as extreme.

General admission, $15; senior citizens and non-UT students, $10; and free to UT students, faculty and staff.
