On Monday, March 12, The University of Tampa's FMX Filmmaker Series continues with award-winning filmmaker Bandar Albuliwi. The event begins at 7 p.m. in Reeves Theater, located on the second floor of the Vaughn Center, and is free and open to the public.
Albuliwi, assistant professor of film, animation and new media at UT, will premiere his short film Je T'aime, and a new version of his previously released film, retitled Azadeh, along with a segment of his debut feature Peace After Marriage (2013), winner of the Creative Promise Award at the Tribeca Film Festival and many international film awards. At the event, writers with books in The University of Tampa Press' poetry series will read from their works, including Florida's Poet Laureate, Peter Meinke, who lives in St. Petersburg and American Book Award winner Ira Sukrungruang, who lives in Tampa and teaches at the University of South Florida.

Risa Lieberwitz, professor of labor and employment law at Cornell University and general counsel of American Association of University Professors (AAUP), will speak at The University of Tampa about academic freedom in higher education on Monday, March 19, at 3 p.m.This presentation is free and open to all UT students, faculty and staff, and the public. It will be held in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values on campus.

It's a topic that has intrigued ROTC Spartan Battalion Commander Carla Shapira '18 about leadership, whether it's on the battlefield or in the board room: emotional intelligence.
"Emotional intelligence applies to absolutely every aspect of your life. I have learned to manage my emotions better and communicate with people better, have better relationships by understanding that I do certain things certain ways and how that might be conveyed to other people," Shapira said. "You're really just understanding yourself and your emotions and using that understanding as tools for making relationships with others."
Shapira, an international business and management major, discusses the topic often in her courses in UT's leadership studies minor. So when she found out that emotional intelligence was the theme of the annual George C. Marshall Leadership Seminar at Fort Leavenworth, KS, for which she was nominated to attend, Shapira was thrilled.

On Thursday, March 8, The University of Tampa will welcome acclaimed writers Patricia Smith and Brock Clarke, who will illuminate urgent social issues by reading from their new books. The reading begins at 6 p.m. in the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery and is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by the UT MFA in Creative Writing program, where Smith and Clarke are on the faculty, this reading is an encore appearance from two of the program's literary stars. Smith's searing, exhilarating poetry and the absurdist, social satire of Clarke's fiction give their audience the shared experience to begin wider conversations about racial attitudes, self-delusion and the underpinnings of the cultural movement Black Lives Matter.
