The public is invited to attend a one-day, hands-on symposium at The University of Tampa that will explore how arts programs and communities can come together to support active military, veterans, wounded warriors and their caregivers.
 
Titled “Engaging Community and the Arts in Health and Well-Being Across the Military Continuum,” the symposium will inform participants about best practices and model military and veteran arts programs. There will be opportunities for learning about and sharing resources in local communities to better serve military connected populations.

Sandy Shwe ’16 has always been active, from playing tennis to swimming, since she was a kid growing up in Brunei. When she had the opportunity to intern for the country’s Ministry of Health last year, and focus on one of its fitness outreach efforts, Shwe found herself in her happy zone.

“I had participated in some other research projects at UT, but when I did this internship I loved it,” said Shwe, a public health major with a minor in sociology. “I realized it was my passion.”

The University of Tampa MFA in Creative Writing speaker series, “Lectores,” will feature seven nights of readings with a mix of award-winning visiting authors and UT’s world-renowned MFA faculty from June 16–23.

Phil Michaels, a UT alumnus and CEO of the educational startup Tembo, has been selected as one of 100 entrepreneurs in the world to attend the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) 2016.

The summit, which is hosted by President Obama, will be held at Stanford University June 22–24. The summit is intended to put innovative global entrepreneurs together with each other and with entrepreneurs from throughout the Silicon Valley and the United States in numerous workshops and hands-on sessions.

Featuring national speakers and sessions on digital citizenship, ethics in decision-making and teaching social/emotional learning, the annual Character Camp Conference is free and open to the public and will be held at The University of Tampa on Friday, July 22.
