UT communication students have been spending the summer and this fall helping produce a local cooking competition television series benefiting Feeding America Tampa Bay. They are behind the cameras, rigging up the lights and performing interviews for Epic Chef Showdown, a Food Network-inspired show similar to “Chopped,” and hosted by the Epicurean Hotel.

On Thursday, Oct. 1, The University of Tampa will welcome Tony DiBenedetto, chairman and CEO of Tribridge, as part of the TECO Energy Center for Leadership Speaker Series. The presentation, titled Leadership in a Service Economy, begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Sykes College of Business Building, Room 131. The event is free and open to the public, though space is limited.

On Thursday, Sept. 24, The University of Tampa will present Chamber Music for Strings and Piano. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Plant Hall’s Grand Salon and is free and open to the public.

Performers include Lei Liu, violin; Nancy Headlee, viola; Helga Winold, cello; Lowell Adams, cello; and Grigorios Zamparas, piano.

At the end of his seven-week stay in Nigeria, Phil Michaels ’10, MBA ’15, M.S. ’15 witnessed something that brought him to tears.

It was the graduation ceremony for the 60 children enrolled in the pilot program Tembo, a curriculum for at-home instruction for children 0–6, living in the urban slums of the world, using mobile phones. Michaels has been leading a team of five since last October creating this social enterprise — a for-profit company addressing a social need.
