In high school, Griffin Guinta ’16 had to do 100 service hours as part of the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program requirements. He was assigned to a homeless shelter and immediately felt a connection.

“I fell in love with helping people who can’t help themselves,” said Guinta, of Bradenton, FL. “But the more I became educated, the more I realized it wasn’t about me feeling good. It was more about creating sustainable change.”

On Friday, Sept. 18, The University of Tampa will welcome professor and author Eric Hayot to discuss his book On Literary Worlds. The discussion, part of the University’s Honors Program symposia series and English and writing department’s Scholar’s Symposia series, will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Crescent Club on the ninth floor of the Vaughn Center and is free and open to the public.

The University of Tampa will kick off the 2015-2016 PNC Bank Concert Artist Series at the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values on Sunday, Sept. 20, with a Brass and Organ Extravaganza!

The concert, which will feature Eric Plutz, university organist at Princeton University, along with The Tampa Brass, will begin at 2 p.m.

BBVA Compass and The University of Tampa today announced the debut of the BBVA Compass Boardroom inside the John P. Lowth Entrepreneurship Center on the top floor of the University's new eight-story Innovation and Collaboration Building. The naming is in honor of the bank’s recent gift to the university.

As part of celebrating College Colors Day 2015 on Sept. 4, University of Tampa students had the opportunity to exchange old T-shirts from other universities and colleges for a new University of Tampa “Spartan Spirit” T-shirt.

Overall, students turned in 124 T-shirts from institutions ranging from College of William and Mary, University of Florida, Auburn University, University of Southern California, Saint Anselm College and numerous others. Now, those T-shirts will be donated this week to Metropolitan Ministries.
