The University of Tampa has announced it will begin offering a major and minor undergraduate program in cybersecurity, which is considered one of the fastest growing fields worldwide, starting Fall 2015.

Students in the program will learn to protect the confidentiality, availability and integrity of information and information systems that support modern organizations.

Cathy Kessenich, professor of nursing and director of the undergraduate nursing and Master of Science in nursing programs, provided some of the most practical and impactful advice to the graduates at UT’s Dec. 13 commencement ceremony.

“I would like to provide you all with the same type of advice that I would give to my patients, so that as you graduate from UT you will go on to fulfill your dreams while enjoying an active and healthy life,” said Kessenich, who provided a top 10 list for college graduates from the view of a nurse practitioner.

The reasons for pursuing an internship before graduation include the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, make connections and potentially, land a job. For two UT seniors, who join 450 graduates at the 139th commencement on Dec. 13, this was exactly their trajectory.

The University of Tampa Spartans volleyball team (34-1) captured the 2014 NCAA Division II National Title Dec. 6 with a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-20, 25-21) over the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs (26-10).

The 2014 National Title marks the second in Tampa’s program history, and the first since 2006. Both titles came under the guidance of head coach Chris Catanach, who has stood at the helm of the program since 1984.

The No. 1 ranked University of Tampa Spartans volleyball team (33-1) earned a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championship game, Friday night, with a 3-1 victory (25-9, 25-17, 21-25, 25-17) over the Arkansas Fort-Smith Lions (29-5) in the Final Four contest. The triumph marks the Spartans' sixth trip to the National Championship.
