Stop by The University of Tampa on Wednesday, Oct. 1, for an evening of contemporary percussion, from marimba to djembe. Percussionist David Coash will perform along with bass trombonist, and fellow Florida Orchestra member, Harold Van Schaik. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Plant Hall’s Grand Salon and is free and open to the public.

On Friday, Sept. 26, The University of Tampa will host The Florida Orchestra Musicians Association’s Fourth Annual Benefit Concert at 7:30 p.m. in Plant Hall’s Fletcher Lounge. The concert is free and open to the public.

Soloists for the concert will be the two Senior Division winners of FOMA’s 2013 Justine LeBaron Young Artist Competition, violinist Julia Hossain and pianist Jacques Antonorsi, a UT junior music performance major.

Before there were mass printing presses and the benefits of good lighting, monks and nuns used to spend hours penning sheets of music for use in church services — for both music and prayer. The large sheets were meant to be shared by people and to be easily read by candlelight.

“These are the beginning of our culture’s organization of music,” said Bryan Shuler ’83, gesturing to the six illuminated manuscripts spread on tables throughout the classroom, tangibly bringing the 11th through the 15th centuries to the second day of class in the Ferman Music Center. “This is your culture, this is your history. I want you to see where your personal professional history began.”

Tampa attorney Greg Kehoe, who led the team of lawyers and investigators which advised the Iraqi Special Tribunal, will speak on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m. in Reeves Theater in the Vaughn Center on The University of Tampa campus.

Kehoe will speak about his experiences in working on the tribunal, which was an ad hoc court formed to prosecute Saddam Hussein. He will also speak about his vast national and international law practice.

In an effort to further its commitment to sustainability and energy savings, The University of Tampa has installed four electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on the first floor of the Thomas Parking Garage on campus. Two are now operable and two others are in place and will be activated as demand dictates.
