Over the course of a weekend, the sleepy summer campus at UT went from empty brick roads and lazy palms blowing in the sea breeze to an organized chaos of moving boxes, out-of-state plates and family jitters. Catherine Gambel ’12 can trace her interest in the Arabic language back to one of her childhood friends, whose parents had come to the U.S. from Lebanon following the start of their country’s civil war in the 1970s.

Dean Koutroumanis, associate director of The University of Tampa Entrepreneurship Center, will appear in an episode of a new television series on the Tampa Bay Community Network called “Creating Your Own Job.” The episode will air Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 8 p.m. on Verizon 30, Bright House Network 950, Comcast 20 and www.watchus.tbcn.org and re-air on Friday, Aug. 17, at 8 p.m. on Verizon 36 and Bright House Network 949.

If you can locate the Philippines on a map, than you might know where Jan-Michael Archer ’13 spent his summer. For two months, the UT senior has lived on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean called Chuuk, one of the four states of the Federated States of Micronesia, situated east of the Philippines and north of Papua New Guinea.
