The lines of soon-to-be University of Tampa graduates couldn’t stand still. Their excitement was palpable as they waited for the start of the 2012 May Commencement at the Tampa Bay Times Forum on May 6. As the music started, it took no more than four beats for the students to stand a little straighter and embrace the magnitude of their achievement.

The University of Tampa has cleared much of what once stood on the site of the future Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex. Beginning May 7, however, the University plans to save and transplant a 65-foot oak tree, considered a “grand tree” by the city of Tampa.

On Sunday, May 6, The University of Tampa will honor more than 1,200 graduates at its 132nd commencement. The ceremony will take place in the Tampa Bay Times Forum at 10 a.m. There will be 1,217 degree candidates, including August graduates; 1,044 are bachelor’s degree candidates and 173 are master’s degree candidates. The ceremony is free and open to the public.
