Philanthropists and education advocates Frank and Carol Morsani, longtime supporters of The University of Tampa and namesake of one of its residence halls, today announced an estate gift – one of the largest in UT’s history – that will support the development of the UT Honors Program into the Morsani Honors College.

This year’s Evening of Experimental Dance at The University of Tampa will feature exciting collaborations between photography, music and dance. Directed by Amanda Sieradzki, visiting assistant professor of theatre and dance, the theme is titled  Arts in Conversation. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, and is free and open to the public.

A new art exhibition at The University of Tampa, The Heart of Nature, will feature 78 artworks from the Ferman Wood Art Collection. The exhibit includes bowls and novelty woodworks, handmade from both domestic and exotic types of wood, and explores the technique of woodturning and wood media's intersectional role between form and function. This summer was the first time Jahnel Villalba ’24 had been to Nicaragua and the first she’d been in a surgical room as part of the medical staff. Since last summer, Emily Friden ’22, marine science-chemistry major, has been in the lab researching red tide, the harmful algal blooms in coastal regions that color the surface of the water and kill marine animals.

A thrilling piece of baseball history is now on view at the Henry Plant Museum. On April 4, 1919, on the grounds of the Tampa Bay Hotel, George Herman “Babe” Ruth hit what was reported to be the longest home run of his career. The ball from that towering homer was held in private collections for more than 100 years before being donated to the Museum by the Estate of Thomas Newman.

Up until about two decades ago, The University of Tampa used to hold its commencement ceremonies on the steps of Plant Hall. That changed on Saturday when, for its 151st commencement, the University hosted its virtual December graduation on those iconic steps.

The University of Tampa announced today that it will begin offering a bachelor’s degree of science (B.S.) in computer science, starting Fall 2021. The curriculum will cover the fundamentals and applied aspects of hardware and software, and graduates of the program will be equipped for roles in software development and engineering, web development, data analysis, cybersecurity and more.

The University of Tampa is again ranked by U.S. News

Tech entrepreneur Nicholas Hinrichsen is the latest guest on The University of Tampa Lowth Entrepreneurship Center podcast, EnFactor. He appears on the Sept. 9 episode called “Take Big Risks and Just Get Started.”  

When Breanna Arbanas’ biology research project fizzled in Fall 2019, she was frustrated. The data wasn’t producing any significant results. But it was one of many lessons the current senior was to learn about research.   Breanna Arbanas ’21 is using machine learning to identify human adenoviruses. “Machine learning is so new that every time a mistake came up I couldn’t Google it,” she said. “Dr. Pad and I would have to analyze the issue and work through it together.”
