Col. Joseph House, Former Chair of UT’s Board of Trustees, Dies

Col. Joseph W. House, former chair of University of Tampa’s Board of Trustees, passed away on Friday, June 2.House served as member of the UT Board of Trustees for nearly a decade, culminating in his role as Board chair from 1995-1997. He supported Metropolitan Ministries and the Alpha House of Tampa, and he served on the board of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce.In 2009, House received the Tampa Bay Ethics Award from The University of Tampa Center for Ethics. This award celebrates integrity, virtue and character by recognizing outstanding individuals in business, professional services or government who exemplify moral qualities and the highest standards in their daily activities.“Joe was a model for our students to emulate, and we are humbled to have shared in his leadership and a special friendship,” said UT President Ron Vaughn.House began his military career shortly after graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1957. During his service career, he commanded several units and was awarded many awards and personal decorations. After retiring from the Army in 1984, House became the general manager for the USAA Southeast Regional office in Tampa. After nearly 13 years, House retired from USAA to become chairman of the advisory board for BECK, where he advised on strategic planning, marketing, proposals, presentations and community relations.
