Former Tampa mayor Pam Iorio will receive the Tampa Bay Ethics Award at a breakfast and ceremony on Friday, Sept. 23, from 7:30-9 a.m. in the Vaughn Center Crescent Club on The University of Tampa campus. The award is presented by UT’s Center for Ethics within the Sykes College of Business.
This is the 21st annual business ethics breakfast put on by the Center for Ethics. The center conducts many programs throughout the year that combine education and business services, and is supported by an advisory board of business and community leaders.
The price to attend the Tampa Bay Ethics Awards is $25 per person or $150 per table of eight. For information or reservations, contact ethics@ut.edu.
In April, Pam Iorio completed two terms as Tampa’s mayor, and left with an 87 percent approval rating. During her eight years, crime was reduced 61.5 percent. Government was trimmed and bank reserves tripled, badly needed infrastructure was updated, and downtown was revitalized.
Iorio began her public service career in 1985 being elected to the Hillsborough County Commission, and then was elected three times to the office of Supervisor of Elections for Hillsborough County. She has served on the Aviation Authority, the Port Authority, the Board of Trustees of The University of Tampa, the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority and the Board of the Tampa-Hillsborough Economic Development Corp.
Former winners of the ethics award include Gov. Bob Martinez, Freddie Solomon and Frederick B. Karl. Nominees for the award must live and work in the Tampa Bay area, and must demonstrate high ethical character in the course of their everyday lives. They must also promote and encourage ethics and integrity in the workplace or other organizations, and they must exhibit respect, trustworthiness and fairness.
