Homecoming 2011 Ushers in Fall
While the palms on campus are still swaying in the warm Tampa sea breezes, other signs signal the start of fall: pumpkins on front porches, less humidity in the air and The University of Tampa’s annual homecoming.
Open to all UT alumni, the events span Oct. 20 to 22. The Rathskeller will reopen as a bar for one night on Friday,
President Ronald L. Vaughn will give a glimpse of the future during a reception where he’ll reveal the direction UT is growing toward and about 60 members of the Tau Kappa Epsilon’s 1969 to 1976 annual reunion will join in Saturday’s All Alumni barbecue lunch.
“It’s a great way to connect with the University but more so, to reconnect with friends made during your college years,” said Jay Hardwick, director of Alumni and Parent Relations, noting that this year’s homecoming includes class reunions for class years ending in 1 and 6.
The Grand Salon and Verandah in Plant Hall will be transformed into a German beer hall as alumni and the Tampa community celebrate Oktoberfest, an event open to the public. Because an assortment of beers and wines from around the world will be served, this celebration also qualifies as a craft beer and wine tasting. The annual fundraiser supports scholarships for UT students.
Saturday events also include an Art Brunch in the R.K Bailey Art Studios with an opening exhibit preview of underwater photography by internationally renowned photographer Scott “Gutsy” Tuason ’90. And an evening Franz Liszt 200th Birthday Concert will be held in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values.
