New Student Academic Success Center to Host Open House Oct. 10

On Thursday, Oct. 10, The University of Tampa will host an open house for its new Academic Success Center, which is a “one-stop shop” on campus that provides students the tools they need to succeed academically.

The media and public are welcome to attend. The open house begins at 11 a.m.

The center, located in North Walker Hall, is intended to provide academic and exploration support services that will assist students in their pursuit of excellence in higher education. The list of services offered at the new Academic Success Center includes academic advising, coaching and exploration, tutoring, help with test anxiety, motivation, procrastination, note taking and time management. The office is also home to the Helios Scholars program, STEP UP program, Strengths-Based Education program and Student Disability Services.

In years past, students would have to go to three different buildings to access these services.

According to Lorie Kittendorf, director of student success, the new center provides for “seamless collaborations.”

“The Academic Success Center provides enhanced services for the empowerment of students to become responsible for their holistic development and academic successes,” Kittendorf said. “Its main focus is to prepare students to become self-supporting, life-long learners.”
