Romanian Quartet Joins UT Pianist for an Afternoon of Chamber Music
The internationally-acclaimed Tiberius Quartet, joined by UT pianist Grigorios Zamparas, will present a chamber music concert on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values.
The concert is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Doors will open 30 minutes before the concert.
The Tiberius Quartet, comprised of two violinists, a violist and a cellist, was founded in 1994 at the Music Academy in Cluj, Romania. Since 2007 the ensemble has been the national string quartet of the Targu Mures Philharmonic Society. This is their first American tour.
Grigorios Zamparas, assistant professor of music, oversees the piano program at UT and performs with the Quartet de Minaret. He has received critical acclaim for his versatile performing career as recitalist, orchestra soloist and chamber musician in Greece, Bulgaria, former Yugoslavia, Russia, Latin America and the U.S. He is a frequent guest at prestigious festivals worldwide, having performed several times at venues such as the Newport Music Festival (Newport, RI), the Mainly Mozart Festival (Miami, FL), and the Salon of the Arts (Sofia, Bulgaria). His recordings have been released by Centaur Records.
