From Oct. 22–25, The University of Tampa will present its popular
Dance Happening, featuring pieces that explore everything from current social issues to dance for the pure joy of movement. All performances begin at 8 p.m. in Falk Theatre, located at 428 W. Kennedy Blvd.
Always a popular event on campus, the Dance Happening will feature more than 90 students representing all sectors of the University community.
“The Dance Happening is all about people doing what they love. It’s a great way for student dancers and choreographers to express themselves in a very supportive environment,” said senior Josephina Purpura, a philosophy major, who is choreographing her first dance at UT. “Plus, it’s such a popular event, and we have so much fun performing for our audiences. Everyone who attends the Dance Happening leaves with a big smile on their face.”
Students and alumni have crafted new choreography in styles including tap, hip hop, Caribbean, African, modern, lyrical and jazz. There is also an original musical composition by a former student.
“The Dance Happening is simply one of the most unique and exciting performance events you’ll experience on a University campus,” said Susannah LeMarquand ’01, assistant professor of dance and director of the UT Dance Happening. “The range of work presented offers something for everyone.”
