UT Hosting Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Feb. 11

University of Tampa students, faculty and staff will honor the legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a day of service to the Tampa Bay community on Saturday, Feb. 11.“The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a day set aside for University of Tampa students, faculty and staff to come together and make a difference within the Tampa Bay community in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. and Black History Month,” said Emily Little ’17, co-director of community outreach in UT’s PEACE Volunteer Center.Little explained that, through this event, “participants are given a chance to work directly with local nonprofits, fellow peers and colleagues in order to make impactful connections while bettering themselves and the community."Participants will volunteer their time and energy at several area nonprofits, including:

Participants will volunteer their time and energy at several area nonprofits, including:
  • Animal Based Charities
    4465 W. Gandy Blvd.
  • Habitat for Humanity ReStore
    3736 E. Hillsborough Ave.
  • Lowry Park Zoo
    1101 W. Sligh Ave.
  • Metropolitan Ministries
    120 E. Ross Ave.
  • Plant City Commons Community Garden
    2001 E. Cherry St.
  • Sweetwater Organic Farm
    6942 W. Comanche Ave
The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers will gather in the Vaughn Center Courtyard at the beginning of the session for orientation. They will then travel by bus to a volunteer location.
