UT Jazz Ensemble to Get “Funky” at Spring Concert April 28

Spring Can Be a Funky Jazz Thing

The University of Tampa Jazz Ensemble will present its spring concert, Spring Can Be a Funky Jazz Thing, on Monday, April 28. The concert, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. in Falk Theatre, located at 428 W. Kennedy Blvd.

In addition to classic swing selections, the concert will feature big band arrangements of funky classics from the ’70s by Don Ellis, Tower of Power and the Brecker Brothers; sophisticated melodies and rhythms from the ’80s and ’90s by Pat Metheny, arranged for big band by Bob Curnow; and the high-energy 21st century compositions of Gordon Goodwin.

The concert will include a guest appearance by vocalist Sam Boatwright, a freshman music major from Atlanta.
