The University of Tampa’s marine science program has been ranked the No. 10 university marine science program in the country by the website Bioexplorer.net.In the ranking, UT’s program is described as “one of the defining and most prominent degrees that make the Department of Biology of the university to stand out.” This, according to the website, is because nearly half of the faculty biology is studying about marine organisms and the marine ecosystem in general. The site goes on to mention that the school is located near Tampa Bay and thus “allows easy and direct access for students, faculty and researchers.”Other universities that were ranked included Duke University, University of Hawaii at Hilo and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.Drawing from general biological principles and very specific marine-related issues, UT’s marine science program includes substantial exposure to biological, chemical and physical aspects of marine science. Additionally, UT’s program offers a vast array of facilities and equipment that is available to faculty and students for course work, experiential learning and faculty-led research. UT’s Marine Science Field Station has both a wet-lab and a dry-lab as well as direct access to Tampa Bay.For more information about UT’s Marine Science program, see https://www.ut.edu/biology/marinescience/.
