The University of Tampa Orchestra will perform its first spring concert Saturday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Falk Theatre. The concert is free and open to the public.
The program includes works by von Suppé, Dvořák, Ticheli, Gershwin and Copland. The performance will begin with a “behind the music” pre-concert discussion at 6:45 p.m. by Kira Omelchenko, assistant professor of music and director of orchestral and string studies, and two members of the orchestra.
Among the 57 members of the orchestra are 25 UT students from various majors, as well as musicians from the University and Tampa Bay community.
“I look forward to the performance because it gives us a chance to show family and the Tampa community how hard we’ve been working for this concert,” said Justin Justice, a junior violin performance major and concertmaster. “I’m especially excited for the audience to hear the
Poet and Peasant Overture by von Suppé because it’s very dramatic and gets my adrenaline pumping.”
