In a collaborative exhibit combining his wife’s photographs of Florida’s Native American heritage sites with his creative nonfiction writing on the subject, John Capouya and Suzanne Williamson’s Shadow and Reflection: Visions of Florida’s Sacred Landscapes opens Oct. 8 at the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg.
The exhibit runs until Nov. 27 at the center, 719 Central Ave., with an opening night party Oct. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Over the last three years, the couple has explored Florida’s ancient Native American mound sites from Tallahassee to Lake Okeechobee. The exhibit is a taste of what they encountered from Williamson’s camera to Capouya’s pen. Capouya, an assistant professor of journalism and writing, recently published a story about this Florida Mounds Project in the
St. Petersburg Times.
