Susan Taylor Lennon, a professor of dance at The University of Tampa, will perform a one-woman show about the joys, pitfalls and fears of getting old(er). Performances will be in the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery at 8 p.m. on June 20, 21, 27 and 28, plus a matinee at 2 p.m. on June 28. All performances are free and open to the public.
“
Aging in Time is primarily a story about getting old, told through storytelling and dancing,” said Lennon. “I share stories of the joys and laughter and the frustrations and tears of the losses and the riches that come with age.”
The show will include storytelling and dance, as well as an interactive environment where audience members can participate in creative activities before and after the performance.
Lennon is the director of the dance program in the Department of Speech, Theatre and Dance at The University of Tampa. She is a two-time recipient of individual artist grants from the state of Florida, and, in 2005, she received the Mayor's Artist of the Year Award. She has been recognized for her work as a community arts organizer, and, in addition to her teaching and performing, she works with elderly and mentally challenged adults.
A concurrent photography exhibit by Jim Lennon titled
On Stage: Women of all Ages features more than 50 color photographs of women of all ages during peak moments of live performances. The exhibit runs June 13–July 3 and will be open before the performances of
Aging in Time.
The gallery is located on campus at the R. K. Bailey Art Studios at 310 N. Blvd
