The University of Tampa has been ranked No. 9 in the top 20 Best Value Colleges for a bachelor’s degree in marine biology by College Values Online.
Other universities ranked include the College of Charleston, Auburn University and Western Washington University.
To develop the ranking, College Values Online consulted College Navigator to identify universities throughout the U.S. with undergraduate tuition numbers below $30,000 offering an undergraduate marine biology degree. The 43 institutions fitting this description were then scored based on the cost of tuition, number of student receiving financial aid, the ability to customize the degree with concentrations or specializations and the ability to earn the degree in multiple formats, such as hybrid, online, full-time or part-time. In addition, universities were awarded extra points for ‘wow factors – a unique program or feature that stood out to the judges.
The University of Tampa ranked No. 9 for its flexible degree allowing for customization based on the students’ specific area of interest and its rich experiential learning opportunities.
Drawing from general biological principles and very specific marine-related issues, UT’s marine science program includes substantial exposure to biological, chemical and physical aspects of marine science. Additionally, UT’s program offers a vast array of facilities and equipment that is available to faculty and students for course work, experiential learning and faculty-led research. UT’s Marine Science Field Station has both a wet-lab and a dry-lab as well as direct access to Tampa Bay.
