UT Set to Induct Class of 2014 to Athletic Hall of Fame
The University of Tampa Athletic Hall of Fame induction banquet is set for Thursday on the 9th floor of the Vaughn Center, beginning with a reception at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m.
The inductees include Shannon Aitken (women's soccer), Eric Beattie (baseball), David Dion (baseball), Tom Graham (men's soccer), Jim Kiner (men's swimming), Rene Martinez (baseball), Jessie McDowell (women's basketball) and Malana Winskas (women's soccer).
The contributors include former men's soccer player and coach Keith Fulk and current cross country/track head coach Jarrett Slaven. UT alumni and area high school baseball coaches John Crumbley, Pop Cuesta, Jim Macaluso and Frank Permey will receive the Sam Bailey Lifetime Achievement Award.
UT will also induct the 2001 NCAA II National Champion men's soccer team for UT Athletic Hall of Fame special recognition.

Following are complete bios on the Class of 2014 inductees.
Shannon Aitken (2004-07): Goalkeeper of the 2007 National Championship Team. In 2007, was named the National Player of the Year. The 2007-08 Sunshine State Conference Female Athlete of the Year. A two-time All-American and two time All-South Region performer. Was named to the All-Sunshine State Conference first team three times. Also was named to 2006 Sunshine State Conference All-Tournament Team. Ranks first in program history in wins (59), ties (7), saves (197), games played by a goalie (76), games started by a goalie (75), and most minutes played by a goalie (6974). Ranks 2nd in save percentage with a .804. Holds single season records in wins (20 in 2007), most minutes played (2354 in 2007), and games started by a goalie (25 in 2007). Won 18 games in 2006, which is second in program history for wins in a season.
Eric Beattie (2002-04): Will be inducted in Cape Cod League Hall of Fame as Class of 2014. Ranks third in school history with four career shutouts. Won 30 games during his career at Tampa, which has him ranked tied for 5th. Threw 288 innings at Tampa, which ranks him 7th in program history. Currently ranks 8th in career strikeouts, with 278. Currently tied for 1st for wins in a season with 15 in 2004, and tied for first with three shutouts pitched in 2003. Started 18 games in 2003, which is 2nd in Spartans history, and threw 134.1 innings in 2003, which ranks 4th. Selected in second round of 2004 MLB Draft by Detroit Tigers. One of three UT players selected in first two rounds, joining Tino Martinez (1) and Sergio Perez (2).
David Dion (1991-94): 1993 first-team All-American. 1994 second-team All-American. Part of two national championship teams. 1993 NCAA II World Series MVP and all-tournament team. Two-time first-team all-South Region (1993-94). 1992 second-team all-South Region. Four-year letterwinner. 1993 NCAA South Regional MVP and all-tournament team. Two-time first-team all-SSC (1993-94). 1992 honorable mention all-SSC. 1994 first-team academic all-district and second-team academic All-American. Among UT single-season leaders, ranks first in games played with 64 in 1994, ninth with 247 at bats in 1993, sixth with 20 home runs in 1993 and 10th with 158 total bases in 1993. Ranks among UT career leaders with 32 home runs (6th).
Tom Graham (1978-82): Goalkeeper for 1981 team that captured schools first national championship. 1st in school history with a save percentage of .868, and with goals against average of .64. Currently ranked 2nd in school history with most career victories with 34. Saved 158 shots which rank him 7th in school history. Only lost two games during his career at Tampa. In 1982, Graham won 19 games, which is a school, single season record. In 1981, recorded 95 saves, which ranks 2nd in school history for most saves in a single season. Was a three-year starter and four-year letterwinner for the Spartans, serving as the top keeper in 1978, 1981 and 1982.
Jim Kiner (1998-2001): Was named an All-American all four years while earning the status in 18 events. One of greatest swimmers in program history. Was a national champion, school record-holder and Olympic trials qualifier. Was also the national runner-up in two events. Current assistant coach has mentored several All-Americans and high-level collegiate swimmers.
Rene Martinez (1985-88): Two-time second-team all-South Region (1987, 1988). Member of three NCAA South Regional all-tournament teams (1986, 1987, 1988). Two-time second-team all-SSC (1987, 1988). Ranks among all-time leaders in sacrifice flies: 1st (22), assists: 5th (561), at bats: 8th (774) and games played: 10th (211). Also ranks among single-season leaders in stolen base pct.: t-1st (1.000 in 1988) and sacrifice flies: t-3rd (7 in 1986).
Jessie McDowell (1999-2003): First-team all-Sunshine State Conference (2003), second-team all-SSC (2001). Member of 2000 SSC all-freshman team. 2003 Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year. Named to 2003 SSC all-tournament team. Ranks among all-time career leaders in blocks (2nd, 298), blocks average (2nd, 2.7), field goal percentage (4th, .539), field goals made (6th, 584), defensive rebounds (6th, 537), games started (6th, 98), rebounds (7th, 797), offensive rebounds (8th, 260), points (9th, 1,395) and minutes (9th, 2,875). Ranks among single-season leaders in field goals made (2nd, 220, 2002-03), games started (2nd, 31, 2002-03), points (3rd, 521, 2002-03), defensive rebounds (3rd, 208, 2002-03), rebounds (4th, 302, 2002-03), blocked shots (4th, 97, 2002-03), field goal percentage (5th, .577, 1999-2000), blocks (5th, 89, 2000-01) and games played (7th, 31, 2002-03).
Malana Winskas (2003-06): Four-time SSC Defensive Player of the Year (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006). Remains the only four-time winner in SSC history. : First-team all-SSC (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006) and remains first four-time all-SSC in program history. Member of 2003 and 2006 SSC all-tournament team. 2006 Daktronics first-team All-American. NSCAA first-team all-South Region (2003, 2004, 2006) and NSCAA second-team all-South Region (2005). NSCAA honorable mention All-American (2003, 2004, 2006). Daktronics South Region Defender of the Year (2003, 2004).
Keith Fulk (1996-2001): Led Tampa to its third soccer national championship in 2001 and program's second unbeaten year with a 19-0-2 season. 19 victories in 2001 also tied a school record for most wins. Also led program to three SSC titles. In six years, recorded 48 victories with a .608 winning percentage. Only coach in Tampa soccer history to be named NCAA II Coach of the Year (2001). Coached a total of six All-Americans and 16 all-SSC selections. Also coached Roy Fink to 2001 National Player of the Year award and two SSC Player of the Year winners. Member of the SSC Hall of Fame.
Jarrett Slaven (1999-present): Under his guidance, the Spartan women captured the school's first ever NCAA II South Regional title in 2004 and added five straight crowns from 2007 to 2010. He also led the men to the first SSC tournament title, doing so in 2011 as the team advanced to the NCAA Nationals. He has also led the women to 11 Sunshine State Conference titles, and had the SSC's Runner of the Year in nine of the last 12 seasons. At Tampa, Slaven has coached 36 female runners to first-team all-SSC honors with a total of 42 all-SSC honorees. On the men's side, UT has had 16 first-team selections and 27 total award winners from the SSC. He has also guided nine females to SSC Runner of the Year distinction and two males to the same honor. Has won 11 SSC Coach of the Year awards.
