The University of Tampa will hold its third annual Human Rights Day Conference on Saturday, April 26. Conference attendees will investigate and celebrate human rights through panels, presentations and creative works from UT faculty and students as well as outside speakers.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 9th floor of the Vaughn Center and is free and open to the public.

The keynote speaker is Douglas McElhaney, a career officer of the United States Foreign Service, who served as the U.S. ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2004 to 2007. He will speak on “Human Rights: An Ambassador’s View” at 10:05 a.m.

Other scheduled events include:

• Educational Rights: “The Restriction of Educational Rights for Aboriginals and Immigrant Groups in Canada: Four Historical Case Studies,” John Friesen, professor of education at the University of Calgary, 11 a.m.

The conference is organized by Bruce Friesen and Marcus Arvan of the Human Rights Think Tank (humanrightstt.webs.com), and is sponsored by the College of Social Sciences, Mathematics and Education, Baccalaureate Program and UT’s philosophy and religion, history, government and world affairs, and sociology departments.
