UT’s Spring Dance Happening Runs April 26–28

This year’s Spring Dance Happening, which runs April 26–28 at The University of Tampa, will feature pieces that explore everything from current social issues to dancing for the pure joy of the movement. All performances begin at 8 p.m. in Falk Theatre, 428 W. Kennedy Blvd., and are free and open to the public.

Always a popular event on campus, the Dance Happening features popular music and more than 80 student dancers from all sectors of the University community performing choreography in styles including tap, hip hop, contemporary and jazz.

Themes for this semester’s production range from The Hunger Games and navigating through life’s changes, to sassy “strutting your stuff” and challenging social expectations about beauty and body size.

“The Dance Happening is all about people doing what they love. It’s a great way for student dancers and choreographers to express themselves in a very supportive environment,” said Kalina DuBuc, an applied dance major who is graduating in May and is choreographing her last dance at UT. “Plus, it’s such a popular event, and we have so much fun performing for our audiences. Everyone who attends the Dance Happening leaves with a big smile on their face!”

“The Dance Happening is simply one of the most unique and exciting performance events you’ll experience on a university campus,” said Susannah LeMarquand ’01, UT assistant professor of dance and director of the Dance Happening. “The range of work presented offers something for everyone.”

The Dance Happening is free, but arrive early for the best seats. For more information, call (813) 257-3745.
