Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Army will conduct its annual spring ceremony to commission its second lieutenants at The University of Tampa via a virtual ceremony on Friday, May 8, at 10 a.m. The ceremony will not be streamed, but it will be recorded. There will also be a supplemental national ceremony where several cadets across the United States Army Cadet Command will be honored.

Film and media arts major Olivia Miranda ’20 wasn’t sure how to produce her senior thesis — a film that would showcase all of the skills she’d learned the last four years — from home and in quarantine. She was frustrated, but reminded herself that the rest of her peers were in the same situation. When on campus, students have access to the equipment cage with professional DSLR cameras and camera accessories like tripods, as well as the black box sound stage that provides a full lighting grid and the advanced audio recording suite. Without these resources, the film students had to get creative at home.

On the night that dance major Janel Wirley ’20 was supposed to perform in the Spring Dance Happening (April 29), she instead will be logging in to an online meeting with all the other performers, choreographers and dance majors, going through their rituals and commemorating the annual event digitally instead of on the stage. For many college students, balancing a full course load, a social life, various extracurricular activities, as well as jobs and internships often means nutrition and healthy eating aren’t priorities. The UT Wellness Center is hoping to change that through the help of peer nutritional counseling. Through a UT Wellness Center scholarship, interested students attend a workshop and are certified as nutrition consultants by the American Academy of Sports Dietitians and Nutritionists (AASDN). They are then employed through the Wellness Center, providing both a benefit to their peers as well as hands-on professional experience for their own careers.
