According to Nassir, the article is about European refugees and the type of challenges many face in their transition to Europe, but also how modalities of art, like dance, artwork and music, can help ease this transition.

“I come from a minority background as a Muslim American, and the transition to coming to a new country where the language and culture is completely different was hard at times,” said Nassir. “I chose to write about this topic, because art is a really powerful tool that helps connect people, no matter what cultural background one comes from.”

Scuba diving on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef was on Alana Boyles’ bucket list, which she quickly accomplished as a freshman in her Honors Tropical Biology and Conservation travel course. It was an experience she finds hard to put into words.

“It was a dream come true to dive the Great Barrier Reef, so just that fact makes my heart swell and rise into my throat, and I get all fluttery inside. It’s weird but true,” said Boyles ’17, a marine science–biology major with a minor in English.

The University of Tampa’s newest building, the Innovation and Collaboration Building, will receive a new name in recognition of longtime UT supporter Maureen A. Daly.

Daly, as announced by UT president Ronald L. Vaughn today, has been awarded this honor in recognition of her longtime service and financial support to the University.

As UT’s spring breakers left campus for some rest, relaxation and even some volunteering, they shared their experiences on social media. See them in the 2016 #UTSpringBreak Storify.

Jessie Beckett ’17 spent this spring break with a group of other UT women in Atlanta learning about and advocating against human trafficking, an experience she said one of the participants described as “beautifully brutal.”

“Our education on this social issue brought to light the devastating and brutal environment victims of sexual exploitation experience and the overwhelming prevalence in today’s world,” said Beckett.
