Bailee McQueen ’20 has watched The Phantom of the Opera, the 2004 movie version, more than 300 times.

“That's not even hyperbole, that's just true,” said McQueen, of St. Petersburg. “I absolutely loved it, and I became obsessed with it. One year later my dad took me to see it on Broadway, because he thought it would get it out of my system, instead I decided that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.”

Paul Prestia, a renowned New York City criminal and civil rights lawyer, and advocate for changes to criminal justice legislation, will speak at The University of Tampa on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 4:30 p.m. in the Music Room in Plant Hall.

Prestia works on behalf of low-income, minority criminal defendants, as well as represents those who believe their civil rights have been violated. He was most recently featured in the 2017 Netflix television miniseries Time: The Kalief Browder Story, as he represented Browder in a civil rights lawsuit against officials from the Bronx Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office and Riker’s Island jail.

On Wednesday, Oct. 3, The University of Tampa will welcome Steve Allen, CEO and founder of enterprise automation company DocuPhase, as part of the Sykes College of Business’ TECO Energy Center for Leadership Speaker Series. Allen’s presentation, titled The Rogue CEO, begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Trustees Board Room on the ninth floor of the Vaughn Center, and is free and open to the public.

On Friday, Sept. 28, The University of Tampa will welcome the Texas-based duo of Meghan Bennet, flute, and Maria Lyapkova, piano, for a concert in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

On Tuesday, Sept. 25, The University of Tampa’s ensemble-in-residence, Trio de Minaret, will perform a program of piano trios by Beethoven, Turina and Sciabin. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values and is free and open to the public.
