The film Silencing the Guns, which is about a village in Nepal that survived decades of armed conflict without one gunshot, will be shown in the Grand Salon in Plant Hall at The University of Tampa on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m.

The screening will be followed by a Q-and-A session with Hem Pun, a Nepalese soldier turned peace activist who will share his experiences in the fight against oppression.

From the roots of bookmaking to the trajectories of world governance, the Fall 2014 Honors Program symposia series will explore the theme “Roots and Contexts of Ideas.”

The series kicks off, Wednesday, Sept. 3, with a presentation by Richard Mathews, UT Dana professor of English and writing and director of the UT Press and Tampa Review, titled “Art of the Book: Its Roots and Evolving Contexts.” Mathews’ talk begins at 5 p.m. in Reeves Theater in the Vaughn Center on the UT campus.

On Saturday, Aug. 30, The University of Tampa will welcome The Rubinstein Players, a duo comprised of violinist Tatiana Chulochnikova and pianist Maria Lyapkova, who will give a concert of early 19th century Ukrainian works. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Plant Hall’s Fletcher Lounge and is free and open to the public.

Aspiring film editor/director Travis Misarti ’16 had never watched an episode of Orange is the New Black until the first time he was working on the set of Netflix's Emmy®-nominated comedy. “However, once I started watching the show I immediately got hooked and ended up binge watching the first two seasons like most people do,” he said. This summer Misarti, a film and media arts major, worked as a production assistant on the show, gaining him invaluable experience in the film business.
