Supporting Women in Higher Education

ACE Women’s Network, UTampa Chapter

The American Council on Education (ACE) Women’s Network is a national system of networks within each state, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia with the goal of advancing and supporting women in higher education.

ACE "convenes and leads advocacy efforts in higher education with a united vision for the future, galvanizing its members to make change…designing solutions for today’s challenges, serving the needs of a diverse student population, shaping effective public policy and promoting a more inclusive future.”

ACE Women's Network, then, has the goal of advancing and supporting women in higher education though programs and initiatives that align with a shared set of core principles known as the IDEALS.

Core Principles

IDEALS

The ACE Women’s Network develops programs and initiatives that align with a shared set of core principles known as the IDEALS. With these IDEALS, the ACE Women’s Network aims to:

— Identify women leaders,

— Develop their leadership abilities,

— Encourage the use of those abilities,

— Advance women's careers,

— Link them to other women and mentors, and

— Support women in mid- and executive-level positions throughout their career.

History

The idea to establish a chapter at The University of Tampa stemmed from former Professor of Political Science Mary Anderson's interest in creating a mentorship group for aspiring women leaders, as well as Vice President of Operations Monnie Wertz’s leadership connections with the ACE Women’s Network in Florida. The two began pursuing this organization as a vehicle for advancing leadership at UTampa.

Mission

The UTampa ACE Women's Network facilitates the networking of women interested in pursuing leadership opportunities in higher education— creating mentorship opportunities and connections, organizing events, sharing leadership best practices and lessons learned, and connecting with regional, state, and national leadership training opportunities and events.
