What additional requirements are there for international students?

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language using one of these qualifiers:
    • TOEFL score of at least 90, or
    • International English Testing System (IELTS) minimum of 6.5 or
    • ELS Level 112 certificate
  • I-20 documents:
    • Financial Certification For International Students form
    • Proof of funds
    • International Students Clearance form (for students who have attended a U.S. university)

Is the GMAT required? 

An applicant is eligible to request a GMAT waiver for MBA and all M.S. programs (except EMBA, PMBA and M.S. in Entrepreneurship) if the student has:

  • An overall GPA (or last 60 hours, whichever is highest) of 3.25 or higher AND
  • A grade of “B” or higher in relevant coursework as deemed appropriate by the Sykes College of Business admissions committee. These courses will depend on the program of interest. No exceptions on the B or better requirement.

GMAT is waived for:

  • M.S. in Entrepreneurship if the student has:
    • An overall GPA (or last 60 hours, whichever is highest) of 3.00 or higher
  • PMBA if the student has:
    • An overall GPA (or last 60 hours, whichever is highest) of 3.00 or higher
    • Five years of professional work experience

What if admission requirements are not met? 

  • If a student does not meet their specific minimum GPA and GMAT score requirements (but is close), there is a possibility for conditional acceptance. A formula is used to calculate an overall admissions score.
  • A student accepted conditionally must maintain a 3.0 GPA for first 8 credit hours.

Is business experience required for admission into the program? 

  • For the full-time and part-time MBA programs, prior business experience is recommended but not required.
  • For the Professional MBA program, the applicant must have five years of relevant professional work experience and a 3.0 GPA.
  • For the Executive MBA program, the applicant must have seven years of relevant professional work experience.

What are the application deadlines? 

  • Applications are evaluated for fall, spring and summer terms on a rolling basis. Qualified students are admitted until spaces are full for the relevant term. Due to the rolling basis, admission is competitive and student are encouraged to apply early, as there are no application deadlines. Decisions are made within a few weeks from the time the student completes their application.

What are restrictions for non-degree seeking status? 

  • Students can take no more than 8 credit hours of 500- and 600-level graduate coursework as a non-degree seeker.
  • GMAT is not required for non-degree seeking status. With a qualifying GMAT score, students can change to degree seeking status during the next semester.
  • Students must have a 3.0 GPA from their undergraduate degree to enroll as non-degree seeking (GPA can be from overall OR last 60 credit hours).

What are requirements for earning a professional certificate? 

  • Successful completion of 12 credit hours required for degree concentration.
  • Student must satisfy other admission requirements.

Are graduate assistantships available? 

  • Graduate assistantships are available to qualified, new full-time graduate business students.
  • Admitted students who meet the academic qualifications for a GA position will be invited to apply.
  • Positions are awarded on academic performance.
  • GA positions pay a $1,500 stipend each semester and tuition for a maximum of 36 total credit hours. Full-time students usually take 8-12 credit hours per semester.

How many credit hours are required to be considered full-time? 

  • Students must take at least 8 credit hours in a semester for full-time status.
  • To be eligible for federal financial aid, students must enroll for a minimum of 4 credit hours per semester.

What are tuition and fees? 

  • For part-time and full-time graduate business students, the tuition is per credit hour
  • For Executive MBA students, the cost of the program includes tuition, fees, textbooks and meals. It is payable over two years in six equal installments.
  • A $40 service fee is assessed each semester.

How many credit hours are needed to graduate? 

  • For part-time and full-time MBA students, the total requirement for graduation ranges from 40 to 57 credit hours, depending on the applicant's educational background and prior coursework.
  • For the M.S. in Accounting, M.S. in Cybersecurity, M.S. in Finance and M.S. in Marketing, the requirements for graduation ranges from 30 to 60, depending on the applicant's educational background and prior coursework.
  • For the M.S. in Entrepreneurship program, the total requirement for graduation is 32 credit hours.
  • For Executive MBA students, 48 credit hours are required for the degree.
  • Business undergraduate degrees from non-accredited schools will be reviewed for potential credits by the Graduate Business Programs Office.

Can credits from another institution be transferred? 

  • Students must take a minimum of 75% of their required credits at UT in order to receive their degree. Between 9 and 12 credit hours can be transferred from another university.
  • The last 15 credit hours must be earned in residence at UT.
  • The University cannot guarantee any credits will be transferred. The Graduate Business Programs Office must review transcripts and syllabi from each course. 
  • Only credits earned with grades of "B" or better will be considered for transfer.
  • Only graduate-level credits from other AACSB-accredited institutions or EQUIS-accredited institutions will be evaluated for integrated core or elective transfer credit.
  • Graduate courses completed more than seven years ago will not be accepted in transfer.

How do I register for my classes? 

  • Students can register online with Workday or in person with their academic advisor. Registration requests cannot be accepted by phone.
  • Registration requires student name, ID number/social security number, class name, class section and course number.

What is MyUTampa? How can I log in? 

  • MyUTampa is your launchpad to many of the applications you use every day on your computer and mobile device. This portal makes accessing UT applications easier and reduces the number of accounts and passwords you have to remember.
  • Among other things, students can check their class schedule, find course availability or register for classes. Examples of the applications you can access include, but are not limited to: Blackboard, Qualtrics, Service Desk, SpartanNet, Zoom and Workday.
  • MyUTampa will use the same user ID and password you use to log in to the university network.
